DOXOLOGY

DRAWINGS ON PAPER (150x90cm)

This series of six drawings stands out for its technique of subtraction, in which material is removed rather then added. This technique gives each work a unique depth and texture, reminiscent of etchings in stone. The reference to the daguerreotype is not insignificant: this ancient photographic technique, famous for its precision and clarity, adds depth to the work, giving the drawings an almost photographic texture, imbued with a nostalgia that anchors them in a historical tradition while projecting them onto contemporary issues.

Each drawing is the result of a meticulous collection of images carefully arranged to create a rich and complex narrative.

At the heart of these devastated urban landscapes, three cows stand as silent witnesses. Emerging from the chaos, this peaceful trinity seems to observe the world with timeless wisdom.

The imposing sky contrasts with the devastated earth below, perhaps symbolising a divine judgement or a glimmer of hope beyond the ruins.

Like its title, the "Doxology"  series of drawings is a work of many drawers. Its didactic meaning: word, discourse that corresponds to the dominant opinion (doxa), gives us an additional framework

These drawings are made up of a mosaic of images selected from the multitude of snapshots available on the web. Arranged to form a coherent composition, they present us with a chimera, a dramatic tableau, in which the narrative, by its very nature, remains open to extrapolation

This collection questions the power of the image as a narrative tool, and in the age of artificial intelligence, highlights these digital technologies and their ability to influence our perception of reality

The drawings in this series invite us to reflect on how we perceive our media landscape, and on the new dimensions that emerging technologies can bring to this perception.

In short, ‘Doxology’ transcends simple visual representation to become a profound meditation on the modern human condition and the ethical and philosophical challenges posed by our increasing ability to manipulate visual information.
